ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A 24-year-old Carlin man has pleaded no contest to murdering his mother and attempting to murder his brother in a plea deal with prosecutors that will make him eligible for parole in 50 years.
Brant Davis has been in jail since he fatally shot his mother, Teresa Black, in the head with a shotgun in March 2013. He also shot his brother, TJ Black, who testified at a preliminary hearing that he pretended to be dead so Davis would leave him alone.
Prosecutor Mark Mills says investigators never established a motive for what appeared to be unprovoked attacks.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://tinyurl.com/qayzjr9 ) public defender Kriston Hill accepted the deal because she was convinced Davis otherwise would be found guilty and sentenced to life with no chance for parole.
