COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Fire officials say a historic southeast Ohio building serving as a college art gallery is a total loss after it was engulfed in flames over the weekend.

Fire crews fought the fire in Nelsonville's public square until the early-morning hours Sunday after the fire broke out late Saturday night.

The Columbus Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1I67nu6 ) reports only the outside walls remain of the building that housed the Hocking College Art Gallery and the Hocking Valley Museum of Theatrical History. The structure is believed to have been built in 1879, and was valued at about $597,000.

Hocking College interim president Betty Young says student and faculty art were lost in the fire.

Some neighboring buildings, including Stuart's Opera House, sustained some minor damage.

No injuries were reported. Officials are investigating the fire's cause.
