Jul. 5--New works by Japanese choreographer Toru Shimazaki and Chicago-born Lar Lubovitch are among the premieres on tap for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago's two separate engagements next season at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance.
The troupe will perform its fall outing there Sept. 27-Oct. 1 and its spring lineup April 11-22. Fall highlights include the premiere of Shimazaki's as yet untitled work set to French composer Rene Aubry; a new work by Hubbard dancer Alejandro Cerrudo, developed from material unveiled at Hubbard's annual choreographic workshop in June; a new version of Brian Enos' "Diphthong"; Lucas Crandall's "Gimme"; and Hubbard artistic director Jim Vincent's "counter/part."
Spring offerings include Lubovitch's new, untitled work, his second for the troupe, and an untitled work by Finnish choreographer Jorma Elo, currently resident director of the Boston Ballet. More spring works will be announced later.
New dancers include Prince Credell, 23, a veteran of the Alvin Ailey second company; Laura Halm, 25, from Hubbard 2; and Terence Marling, 30, lately with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater.
Departing are Erin Derstine, veteran John Ross, Patrick Simoniello (returning to the Joffrey Ballet), Isaac Spencer and Julia Wollrab.
