CULVER, Ore. (AP) — A Central Oregon middle school student is accused of bringing a .22-caliber handgun to school and faces expulsion.
The Bend Bulletin (http://bit.ly/1yaH8CY) reports the 12-year-old was charged with stealing the weapon from a vacant trailer in a campground.
Authorities say he brought it to the school last week in Culver, which is south of Madras. The revolver held one round.
Another student reported the weapon. Capt. Marc Heckathorn of the Jefferson County sheriff's department says the student didn't threaten anybody, didn't bring the weapon for protection and cooperated with investigating deputies.
Under Oregon law and school district policy, students who bring a weapon to district property can be expelled for no less than a year, but the superintendent can modify the terms on a case-by-case basis.
