NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The Kenyan military has launched air strikes against Islamic militants in Somalia following an extremist attack on a Kenyan college that killed 148 people. A military spokesman says warplanes have attacked positions of the al-Shabab militant group this morning as well as Sunday afternoon. Al-Shabab, which is based in Somalia, has claimed responsibility for the college attack Thursday in the Kenyan town of Garissa.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Former NFL star Darren Sharper is scheduled to make his first appearance in federal court in New Orleans today, where he's accused of drugging women, allegedly so he could rape them. Tomorrow, the former New Orleans Saints player is expected to appear in Louisiana state court, where he faces charges of aggravated rape. Sharper already has pleaded guilty or no-contest in three states, including California.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — A man accused of killing three Muslim college students in North Carolina is set to appear in court today for a hearing to determine whether he could face the death penalty. Craig Stephen Hicks is accused of the February 10 killings of 23-year-old Deah Shaddy Barakat, his 21-year-old wife and her younger sister. Police say the violence may have been motivated by a long-running dispute over a parking space. The victims' families say the three were targeted because they were Muslim.

JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — An Indonesian court has rejected appeals by two Australian drug traffickers who face execution. Indonesia's president has refused to grant the men clemency, and today, the Jakarta High Administrative Court agreed with a lower court, saying the case is out of their jurisdiction since clemency is the prerogative of the president. The men (Myuran Sukumaran and Andrew Chan) face execution along with eight other drug smugglers.

NEW DELHI (AP) — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is blaming changing lifestyles for rising pollution levels that have given India some of the world's dirtiest air. He's asking citizens to curtail waste and conserve resources even as they become wealthier, in order to prevent an environmental catastrophe. The World Health Organization says air pollution kills millions of people each year, including more than 627,000 in India.
