CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (AP) — The Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Medical Center is slated for a $309 million makeover, starting this fall.
The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (http://on.rocne.ws/1DOY2aN ) reports that the renovation project is a result of a years-long national evaluation of VA infrastructure. The Canandaigua VA got an unfavorable evaluation and was recommended for closing in 2003, but an extensive grassroots campaign in Canandaigua saved the hospital and led to the current expansion project.
The project will include construction of a new center for outpatient services. Canandaigua VA Executive Director Craig Howard says the new plan will use teams of doctors and support staff that will offer highly personalized outpatient care focusing on wellness and preventive care.
