PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The University of Rhode Island will offer classes this summer to high school students and entering college freshmen for college credit.
The school announced this week that its initiative, called "Rhode Island Ready," would allow students to choose from eight general introductory courses that will count toward a degree at the University of Rhode Island or another college.
Program coordinator John Olerio says classes start July 13 and run three to five weeks depending on the course. He says all classes will be held at the school's Kingstown campus.
Olerio says high school juniors and seniors are eligible as well as recent high school graduates as long as they have a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. The cost is $225 per credit for state residents.
Registration begins Wednesday.
