VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis is decrying the plentitude of weapons in the world in his Easter peace wish. Speaking from the central balcony of St. Peter's Square today, Francis said the world is being subjected to "arms dealers, who earn their living with the blood of men and women." He also recalled the young people killed last week in a Kenyan university, many of them targeted because they were Christians, and lamented kidnappings by Islamic extremists that have plagued parts of Africa, including Nigeria.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee says a nuclear agreement with Iran is possible, but it needs to be "a deal that will stand the test of time." Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," Sen. Bob Corker says the way to accomplish that is for Congress to scour the details of the final plan, ask the Obama administration hard questions and then vote on it. Negotiators hope to finalize a deal by the end of June.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana tourism agencies are rolling out campaigns emphasizing that everyone is welcome, after the state's image took a battering over its religious objections law. Fears that the law would allow discrimination against gays and lesbians led convention organizers and performers to cancel events and some state and local governments to ban travel to the state last week. The convention and tourism industry has been the hardest hit with at least two conventions canceled in Indianapolis.
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — President Barack Obama and his family are attending Easter services at a Baptist church in Virginia. The Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria says its history goes back to the time when Thomas Jefferson was in the White House. According to the church's website, the Alexandria Baptist Society was formed in 1803 when members split from another church in the Northern Virginia city, and a slave was baptized that year as its first black member.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A lot of people tuned in last night to see Wisconsin end Kentucky's dream of an undefeated season. The Badgers' 71-64 victory Saturday night averaged a 13.3 overnight rating and 24 share across TBS, TNT and truTV. That's up 48 percent from last year's matchup of the same teams and the highest preliminary rating for an NCAA semifinal in 22 years.
