CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Senate has passed a bill to make background checks on gun sales free, although it wouldn't make them mandatory. The measure prohibits mentally ill convicts from owning a gun and removes the $35 fee for background checks for private gun sales. The bill also beefs up reporting requirements on criminal history and mental illness.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada Assembly committee has advanced two bills requiring voters to show identification to cast a ballot. The panel voted to send the bills to a money committee for financial review, but without a recommendation to pass it. The measures would require voters to show a government-issued ID card, such as a driver's license, or an ID specifically created for the purpose of voting.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A bill allowing Nevada to increase speed limits up to 80 mph has passed out of the state Senate. The bill is sponsored by Republican Sen. Don Gustavson and would allow the state's transportation department to increase highway speed limits up to 80 mph if it chooses.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Don't expect much change back from a $100 bill to watch the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao fight at home. The two cable networks carrying the fight say the suggested retail price for the May 2 pay-per-view will be $89.95. Many, though, will end up paying $99.95 because of a surcharge for high definition tacked on by many cable and satellite providers.
