ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — The student government at the University of Michigan has rejected a resolution calling for the creation of a committee to investigate the school's investments in companies that do business at what some say is the expense of Palestinians.
The Michigan Daily reports (http://bit.ly/1Doetfu ) hundreds attended Tuesday night's meeting of the Central Student Government.
Students Allied for Freedom and Equality, the university's chapter of an organization that advocates for solidarity among Palestinians on campuses, introduced a similar proposal last year. It's seeking divestment as a protest against Israeli policies toward Palestinians.
The resolution asked for student government to support the creation of a committee through the university's Board of Regents to look into investments in four companies. The resolution said that the companies profit from violations of human rights.
