BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Rookie teachers in Idaho will receive pay raises starting July 1 under a $125 million proposal headed to the governor's desk for his signature. The plan would raise salaries for beginning teachers by almost $1,000 to $32,700 in July. Over the next five years, first-year teacher pay would increase to $37,000 per year. However, the proposal depends on state revenue increasing 5.2 percent each year in order to fully fund it.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Two parts of a patchwork plan aiming to raise $46 million for Idaho's crumbling roads and bridges have passed a House panel. The House Transportation Committee narrowly voted to move $16 million in fuel tax revenue currently funneled to the Idaho State Police and open it up for road maintenance. A second plan designed to raise registration fees by $15 per vehicle passed by voice vote.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A central Idaho-based conference and events center is pushing approval to grant liquor licenses to conference centers in Idaho's resort cities. Liquor licenses in Idaho are distributed based on population, which causes a limited number of licenses to be granted in small towns. Proponents say that only the Ketchum-based business would qualify under the proposed law.

MONTEVIEW, Idaho (AP) — The Jefferson County sheriff's office says a 71-year-old man was killed and a younger man was injured when a potato cellar collapsed in the eastern Idaho community of Monteview. The sheriff's office identified the man who died as Ronald Ball Sr. The Idaho Falls Post Register reports that the two men were tearing down the cellar when the frame collapsed.
