This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

It started with a company's computers and printers that were burning up or shutting down. Even backup batteries and power sources weren't fixing the problem, which only got worse. It started to infect heavy equipment where mother boards on machines were crashing and burning out. As a result, the company was losing as much as a week of productivity every quarter. That's when Simplure stepped in.

Salt Lake City-based Simplure is in the business of making the electricity we buy cleaner and more effective. They can come in and analyze the quality of a company's power and understand the causes of why it's not running at optimal levels and then offer solutions on how to help the power run more efficiently. Simplure offers power quality products and services that address the magnitude of demand spikes, improve power factor to over 95 percent and reduce harmonic distortion or noise from power switching.

Company President and CEO Wayne Viehweg says saving on the power bill is the icing on the cake. The real benefit is how the power running into the company's facility is cleaner, so their equipment lasts longer, meaning productivity and efficiency both improve. For example, increase the temperature of any machine or computer by only 17 degrees and the life of the motor is cut in half. You can imagine the major concern this is, especially for companies running large pieces of equipment around the clock who are losing valuable work days when their equipment is ruined from power spikes.

Simplure has created a new science in analyzing power and then installing devices designed to clean it. The simple fact is, if you don't have a balance when it comes to power delivery and use, equipment burns out. Simplure is now connecting with electrical contractors from across the United States. And although their greatest concentration is in the Intermountain West, Simplure is bringing their message of efficient energy use to anyone willing to listen and understand the gravity of the problem.
