LAS VEGAS (AP) — A federal judge in Las Vegas may rule today in an illegal gambling case against a wealthy Malaysian businessman. Defense attorneys say the FBI violated the rights of Wei Seng "Paul" Phua by posing as Internet repairmen to get into his hotel room and want the evidence obtained by them thrown out. Phua is the only remaining defendant among eight people arrested in the case.
CRYSTAL BAY, Nev. (AP) — Developers plan to start construction in May on a major new resort at the site of the Tahoe Biltmore on Lake Tahoe's north shore. Developers tell the Sierra Sun newspaper that they reached a financing agreement with a private equity firm earlier this month. They had faced an April deadline to come up with financing.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fresh & Easy is closing about 50 stores in California, Arizona and Nevada in the coming weeks as the grocery chain pursues a new business model. The company says that by selling the stores, it can invest in new fresh food convenience stores. Los Angeles-based The Yucaipa Cos. bought the chain out of bankruptcy in 2013 from British retailer Tesco.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Roberta Lange has been unanimously re-elected as chair of the Nevada Democratic Party. Lange says that Democrats have "a lot of work to do" in coming months to prepare for the 2016 elections. But she says she looks forward to working with Democrats across the state to re-elect U.S. Sen. Harry Reid and elect Democrats up and down the ticket.
