WALHALLA, S.C. (AP) — Oconee County deputies are offering a $20,000 reward for information that helps them figure out what happened to a 19-year-old Clemson University fraternity member who fell to his death from a bridge last fall.
Authorities say Hipps was on a pre-dawn run with members of Sigma Phi Epsilon when he disappeared on Sept. 22. His fraternity brothers noticed him missing at breakfast, and called police about eight hours later.
Searchers found Hipps' body headfirst in rocky, shallow water below a bridge over Lake Hartwell.
Authorities announced they are offering the anonymous reward Friday. Hipps' parents have said they are frustrated over the investigation.
Deputies and the State Law Enforcement Division say their case into Hipps' death is still open. No charges have been filed.
