MIDDLETON, Idaho (AP) — Authorities in southwest Idaho say a deputy responding to a disturbance at a home shot and killed a man who emerged from the home with a pistol. Canyon County Sheriff Chief Deputy Marv Dashiell says the deputy fired multiple rounds from his sidearm during the confrontation east of Middleton. He says it's not known if the man fired with the pistol.
CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A 15-year-old southwest Idaho boy has died in an accidental shooting. Caldwell Police say the boy was handling a stolen handgun at the Caldwell home of a friend when it discharged and struck him in the head on Friday. Investigators say adult family members didn't know the juveniles had the gun.
IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A former Idaho Falls man who spent six years as a fugitive after being charged with felony injury to a child has pleaded guilty and received a 10-year prison sentence. The Post Register reports charge against Joshua Joseph Walton stems from 2008, when a 4-month-old girl not related to Walton suffered skull fractures.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A House panel has introduced its third version of a bill to raise the pay for Idaho teachers. The House Education Committee voted unanimously today to consider the plan after introducing — and then killing — a similar plan yesterday. Special Assistant for Education Marilyn Whitney says the bill was tweaked to let groups of teachers — not just individual teachers who meet certain benchmarks — apply for $4,000 per person bonuses.
