WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Investigators say a 64-year-old West Valley City man died in an apartment fire after falling asleep while smoking a cigarette.
Leland Ivy, who lived by himself, was found dead on the floor of his unit Saturday morning.
Investigators believe he fell asleep on a couch while smoking and the cigarette caught the couch on fire.
A neighbor smelled smoke about 10 a.m. and called 911 when no one answered a knock on the apartment door.
Firefighters found Ivy's body by the couch after putting out the blaze.
