RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The Brazilian government has raised the death toll from a bus accident to 54 while police continued to search for more possible victims.
The bus plunged 1,300 feet down a mountain in southern Brazil on Saturday.
Officials say the dead include at least eight young children, three adolescents, 24 women and 14 men. Ten people have been taken to hospitals.
The bus crashed on a curvy road that winds through a region popular for hiking and biking in Santa Catarina state, about 600 miles southwest of Rio de Janeiro.
