RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Henrico County has confirmed its second positive rabies case this week.
County police say in a news release that animal protection officers responded to a call Monday about a dog fighting with an injured raccoon. The raccoon's remains were submitted to the state laboratory for testing. The rabies diagnosis was confirmed Wednesday.
A day earlier, rabies was confirmed in another raccoon that attacked a woman Saturday as she was walking in Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. The woman is undergoing post-exposure treatment.
The dog involved in the subsequent incident will receive a rabies booster and be quarantined at its home.
