CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are considering a bill that would require police in Clark and Washoe counties to wear a body camera while on duty.
Democratic senators Aaron Ford and Kelvin Atkinson are sponsoring SB111, which was discussed Wednesday in the Senate Government Affairs Committee.
Cost estimates submitted to the Legislature show the proposal could cost more than $14 million in the next two years, and that figure doesn't count North Las Vegas or Boulder City.
Proponents including the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department say the measure could help foster trust between officers and the public, but want limits on when events are recorded and how long footage is saved.
Democratic Assemblyman Harvey Munford is sponsoring a similar bill that would require police statewide to wear body cameras. AB162 was discussed Monday.
