NEW YORK (AP) — The next president of New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art will be an art historian who's currently president of Haverford College in Pennsylvania.
The museum announced Tuesday that Daniel H. Weiss is to succeed Emily Kernan Rafferty, who will retire this month after 10 years in the post.
Weiss was elected to the museum presidency at a board of trustees meeting after a national search. He will assume his new post this summer.
Museum Chairman Daniel Brodsky calls Weiss an accomplished, creative and energetic leader with a proven record in managing areas essential to running large institutions.
Weiss will serve as the museum's chief operating officer. He'll be responsible for all day-to-day operations. He'll oversee 1,500 employees and report to director Thomas Campbell.
