BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A House panel has killed a bill aiming to strip a Valley County ski resort of four unused liquor licenses and give them to restaurants and conference centers in Idaho resort towns.
Restaurant owner Ryan Haworth told the House State Affairs Committee Tuesday that local restaurants in resort towns are losing business because they are struggling to get liquor licenses.
But Rep. Elaine Smith didn't want to transfer licenses that had originally been given to the year-round resort.
The bill was defeated by an 11-6 vote.
Tamarack, a popular ski resort in Valley County, would have lost four of its 12 authorized liquor licenses. The business is currently not using 10 of them.
Rep. Lynn Luker worried the bill's wording allowed resort town businesses to apply for unlimited licenses.
