LAUREL, Md. (AP) — Interstate 95 just north of the Capital Beltway in Maryland has reopened after officials say a tanker truck overturned, spilling about 400 gallons of bio-diesel fuel.
The truck overturned Tuesday south of state Route 198 near Laurel, halting traffic in both directions for more than two hours.
Maryland State Police said in an email Tuesday night that a car driven by 23-year-old Christopher Rhodes of Laurel abruptly changed lanes and hit another car. Troopers say 32-year-old William Gorman of Westminster was driving the tanker truck and tried to avoid the cars, but hit one and overturned.
Police say the tanker also sideswiped a fourth vehicle.
Rhodes was charged with reckless driving and unsafe lane change, among other charges.
Authorities say another driver, 34-year-old Jamie R. Smith of Aberdeen, was hospitalized.
