SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A University of Utah speech by the woman who inspired the lead character of the TV show "Scandal" about a high-profile crisis manager has been cancelled.
Officials announced Monday that travel difficulties kept Judy Smith from Salt Lake City, where she was scheduled to be the keynote speaker for a week-long event exploring issues that affect women.
Smith served as deputy press secretary to President George H. W. Bush and has worked with people like Monica Lewinsky and quarterback Michael Vick as well politicians and companies like NBC.
She was expected to talk at noon Monday about gender equality, women in positions of power and the "Scandal" character loosely based on her, Olivia Pope.
