SPANISH FORK, Utah (AP) — A baby that survived a car crash in a frigid Utah river after being strapped in a car seat upside-down for about 14 hours before being found is in better condition. Police said yesterday the 18-month-old girl's condition was upgraded from critical to stable but critical condition. Her 25-year-old mother, Lynn Groesbeck of Springville, was found dead in the car Saturday.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — As the federal government moves forward with new rules for wood-burning stoves, Utah state officials are grappling with how to locally regulate stoves that contribute to polluted winter air. The state retreated from a proposed wintertime ban on all wood burning. Spokeswoman Donna Kemp Spangler says the Utah Division of Air Quality is reviewing public feedback and assessing recommendations.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Two Utah peace officers have been suspended without pay over a video shoot featuring bikini-clad women firing high-powered weapons. The Utah Department of Public Safety imposed the discipline on Utah Highway Patrol sergeant Rob Wilkinson and State Bureau of Investigation agent Justin Hansen. They were at the Big Shot Ranch in June when models posed for a calendar.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah man accused of wanting to kill police officers and blow up a police station has pleaded guilty to a felony charge. John Huggins entered the plea to possession of an unregistered destructive device in Salt Lake City federal court last week. Ogden's Standard-Examiner reports he faces up to 10 years in prison when he's sentenced May 14.
