PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Forecasters say this could be the last big snow storm of the season. A winter storm that stretches from northern Texas to New England could bring up to 10 inches of snow to West Virginia, Kentucky and southeastern Ohio today. Baltimore and Washington could see up to 8 inches. And temperatures have plummeted as the storm pushes east. In Monticello, Arkansas, the mercury has fallen from 71 degrees to 52 degrees. Greenville, Mississippi went from 74 to 48 degrees in one hour Wednesday.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Four patients at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles have been infected with an antibiotic-resistant "superbug" linked to a tainted medical scope. The revelation comes two weeks after a similar outbreak at Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center, where seven patients were sickened with a superbug after undergoing endoscopic procedures. Two died. Cedars says it's halted such procedures.
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia is offering Indonesia a prison swap deal in a last-ditch bid to save the lives of two Australian drug smugglers who've been transferred to an island prison where they are to be executed within days. Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop says she made the proposal to her Indonesian counterpart but has yet to hear back. Bishop offered to repatriate three convicted Indonesian drug criminals in return for the lives of the Australians.
DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) — Officials in a separatist rebel-held city in east Ukraine say the death toll from an accidental explosion at a coal mine has risen to 32. The self-appointed government in Donetsk says one person still remains unaccounted for. The blast happened before dawn Wednesday more than 3,200 feet underground at the mine in Donetsk, where bitter fighting has raged for almost a year between Russian-backed rebels and Ukrainian forces. Rebel officials say the accident was caused by methane gas.
BERLIN (AP) — Police say there's no evidence of a break-in, but someone has removed faucets from the still-incomplete headquarters of Germany's foreign intelligence service in Berlin, causing a large water leak. Police say officials were alerted to the theft at the sprawling site on Tuesday and they have no information on who might be responsible. The Federal Intelligence Service is moving its headquarters from the Munich suburb of Pullach to the newly built complex in Berlin.
