BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho House has approved a bill requiring teens to get parental permission to use tanning beds.
The Spokesman-Review newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1BDSUoO ) that the bill passed 47-23 on Tuesday. It now moves to the Senate side.
The plan would require parental permission for teens ages 14 to 17 to use a tanning bed. Teens under 14 would be banned from commercial tanning beds completely.
The House Health and Welfare Committee unanimously passed the legislation last week. The chairman, Republican Rep. Fred Wood of Burley, told lawmakers that using a tanning bed is directly linked to skin cancer.
Similar rules for youngsters are already in place for tattoos and piercings.
Two more restrictive versions of the bill failed in 2012 and 2013.
