LAS VEGAS (AP) — Records show a 19-year-old accused of killing a Las Vegas woman in a neighborhood gunbattle suffered a severe head injury at the hands of his father when he was 7-weeks-old. Archived court documents reviewed by The Associated Press show the father, Erich Nowsch (nowsh) Sr., pleaded guilty in 1996 to child abuse.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Assemblyman Richard Carrillo has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and possessing a firearm while intoxicated. Carson City sheriff's officials say the Democratic lawmaker from Las Vegas was arrested around 3 a.m. Carrillo did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment this morning.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are reviewing a bill that would require local governments to disclose details about their proposed contracts with unions at least 10 days before the agreements came up for a vote. Republican state Sen. Pete Goicoechea (Goh-gah-CHEE'-ya) said the rule would allow time for the public to review the agreements.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — State analysts say Nevada casinos were bigger winners in January than they were a year ago. Nevada's Gaming Control Board says the state's casinos won $953 million in January, up nearly 8 percent compared to a year earlier. Gambling revenue is up 15 percent on the Las Vegas Strip and 14 percent in Reno.
