WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham and John McCain say a bill funding the Department of Homeland Security shouldn't be linked to a provision overturning Obama's executive actions on immigration. DHS Secretary Jeh (jay) Johnson says a shutdown of his department would threaten efforts to counter the extremist appeal of the Islamic State group in the U.S.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A video purported to be by Somalia's al-Qaida-linked rebel group al-Shabab is urging Muslims to attack shopping malls in the U.S, and other Western nations. It also warns Kenya of more attacks like the 2013 assault on a mall in Nairobi in which 67 people were killed. Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson calls the video "the new phase" of the global terrorist threat.

SYDNEY (AP) — Australia will strengthen immigration laws and crack down on groups that incite hatred under a raft of counterterrorism measures intended to combat the threat from home-grown terrorists. Prime Minister Tony Abbott announced the new anti-extremism strategy on Monday following the release of a government review into December's deadly siege at a Sydney cafe.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The 87th annual Academy Awards are being handed out tonight in Hollywood. The supporting actor Oscar went to J.K. Simmons for his performance in "Whiplash." Patricia Arquette won supporting actress for "Boyhood." The foreign language film Oscar went to "Ida" and "Big Hero 6" won best animated feature film.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) —Joey Logano has his first career Daytona 500, two years after the one-time phenom was dropped by Joe Gibbs Racing. Logano was looking for work near the end of 2012 when he was cut loose. He was snatched up by Roger Penske and rewarded the owner his second Daytona 500 title. Logano finished ahead of Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
