LAS VEGAS (AP) — The husband of a Las Vegas woman who died in a road-rage shootout says the family knew a suspect arrested by police and had tried to mentor him. Robert Meyers spoke to reporters this afternoon outside the family home after police arrested the suspect about a block away. He said his late wife gave the suspect money and tried to teach him how to be a man.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Former Washoe County school superintendent Pedro Martinez is one of four finalists for the job of superintendent of Boston Public Schools. Martinez was fired from his job in Washoe County last year, but the firing was found to be illegal and he returned to work until the school board voted in September to buy out his contract. He left the position in November.
ALAMO, Nev. (AP) — A southern Nevada woman has been killed and a man seriously injured in a crash between a car and a semi-trailer truck on U.S. Highway 93 in rural Lincoln County. The Nevada Highway Patrol says the 44-year-old woman who was killed was the passenger in a car that was apparently traveling in the wrong lanes.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The company that owns the Las Vegas Review-Journal and several smaller Nevada newspapers is being purchased by a New York-based group. New Media Investment Group says it is purchasing most assets of Stephens Media for $102 million. Stephens also owns the Pahrump Valley Times, Tonopah Times-Bonanza and Boulder City Review.
