LAS VEGAS (AP) — UNLV honored the late Jerry Tarkanian with a pregame tribute and video last night that included scenes from the Runnin' Rebels' national championship in 1990. Members of the Tarkanian family and several former players attended the event at the Thomas and Mack Center in honor of the former Rebels coach, who died last week at age 84.

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif. (AP) — A male body has been found near the area where an 18-year-old Las Vegas man was swept off rocks into the ocean at a Southern California beach early last week. Fire officials say the coroner will have to determine whether the body is Anthony Parnell. He was swept away while exploring a cave-like outcropping with man-made saltwater pools in Laguna Beach.

CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A bill that would make it easier for immigrants with temporary legal status to get a Nevada teaching license has been approved by the Assembly Education Committee. The bill would allow those immigrants who have work permits through the DREAMers act to get a teaching license if a district has a teacher shortage of any kind.

ELKO, Nev. (AP) — Unusually warm weather has given construction crews a head start on a series of building projects in Elko, including two new hotels and an apartment complex. The Daily Free Press reports three new hotels are on the drawing board that will add about 245 rooms — roughly 80 each.
