The president appealed directly to prominent Muslims to do more to distance themselves from brutal ideologies, saying all have a duty to "speak up very clearly" in opposition to violence against innocent people.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Pentagon says about 1,200 moderate Syrian rebels have been screened by the U.S. for a new training program so they can eventually return to the fight against Islamic State insurgents. The rebel fighters will get training in places like Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar on basic military equipment and skills, including firearms, communications and command and control abilities.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A source says video shows Bruce Jenner started a chain-reaction crash that resulted in a woman's death on a Southern California highway. A law enforcement official tells The Associated Press that Jenner's SUV rear-ended two cars in Malibu, pushing a Lexus into oncoming traffic. The driver of the Lexus was killed when it was struck head-on by a Hummer.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — A San Diego television sportscaster left the hospital Wednesday, eight days after he was shot outside his home in what prosecutors say was a dispute with a house painter. Kyle Kraska released a statement through CBS affiliate KFMB-TV thanking people for their "prayers, blessings and well-wishes."
