LANCASTER, N.Y. (AP) — A western New York school district is inviting the public to weigh in on whether it should keep or replace its "Redskins" mascot and nickname.

The Lancaster Central School District near Buffalo has scheduled a community engagement session for March 3 in the high school cafeteria. The district website says feedback will be compiled into a report that will help inform the board of education's study of the issue.

Supporters, meanwhile, are making their position known in advance.

A banner has been strung across one of the town's main streets urging: "Save the Redskin Tradition." The banner advertises a rally at the high school to coincide with the school board's forum.

Opponents of the nickname say it's offensive to Native Americans.
