BENNINGTON, Vt. (AP) — A group of 20 Vermont schools will be getting a $500,000 technology grant to allow students to participate in more distance-learning partnerships.
The rural schools serving kindergarten through 12th grade will benefit from the grant.
Eight are in the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union. The Bennington Banner reports (http://bit.ly/Jea059) the other schools are in Wells River, Proctor, Rutland, Bennington, Bakersfield, Enosburg Falls, Montgomery and Richford.
SVSU technology education director Frank Barnes said the money would primarily pay for equipment, installation, and training for teachers. The equipment would allow students to interact with classes at other partner schools, colleges, universities, and museums.
As an example, he said if students wanted to take a course in meteorology at Lyndon State College, they could do that.
