ALLENDALE, Mich. (AP) — Grand Valley State University in western Michigan is building another residence hall to meet the demand for campus housing.
There will be about 500 beds, three classrooms, a bagel shop and other amenities. The $37 million dorm should open for the start of the 2016-17 school year. It will raise campus housing capacity to 6,300 students.
Grand Valley housing director Andy Beachnau tells The Grand Rapids Press (http://bit.ly/1Cqdrf2) that students who live on campus tend to take more classes. He says there's a need for more housing because many students are doubled up in rooms planned for only one person.
Grand Valley hasn't built a residence hall in Allendale since 2010.
