Colorado Mesa student who died in fall was intoxicated

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — Authorities say a student who died after he fell out of a fourth-story dormitory window at Colorado Mesa University was intoxicated.

The Mesa County coroner's office says 20-year-old Spencer Pannwitz's blood-alcohol concentration was 0.161 percent when he fell about 40 feet Jan. 24. The legal standard for being under the influence of alcohol is 0.08 percent.

The sophomore from Parker did not have any drugs in his system. The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/17w4uqD ) he was a kinesiology major pursuing a career as a physical therapist.

Pannwitz's death has been ruled an accident.
