BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — The Burlington School District has a new superintendent.

Yaw Obeng (Yow Oh'beng) was named superintendent on Thursday. He comes to Burlington from Burlington, Ontario, where he's been a superintendent leading 12 of about 100 schools in the 60,000-student Halton District.

Obeng will succeed interim superintendent Howard Smith, who did not seek appointment to the permanent superintendent post. He is expected to start on July 1.

Last year, Superintendent Jeanne Collins resigned after a report showed her office had been making budget errors.
