SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah House has unanimously approved a bill that makes it clear that an unconscious person can't consent to sex. One lawmaker caused an uproar last week when he questioned during a hearing on the bill whether sex with an unconscious spouse should be considered rape. Republican state Rep. Brian Greene later apologized and said he supports the bill. Current Utah law says sex with an unconscious person without consent is rape.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah House has approved a bill that protects the right of businesses offering drive-thru service to refuse someone on a bicycle or on foot. The bill prohibits cities and counties from passing ordinances requiring drive-thru services be open to those not in motorized vehicles. In an effort to be bicycle-friendly, Salt Lake City has passed a law requiring that businesses with a drive-thru serve cyclists.
LOGAN, Utah (AP) — A 26-year-old Utah woman accused of faking brain cancer has pleaded guilty to forgery charges. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Lesley Jensen accepted a deal with prosecutors. Authorities say Jensen forged medical documents to make people believe she had cancer. The 27-year-old Jensen has agreed to pay back the $30,000 she received through fundraisers.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah prison officials confirm police are investigating the fatal stabbing of an inmate in a cell at the state prison in Uinta. Prison officials say a fight broke out between two inmates in the cell and one inmate was fatally stabbed. The other was taken to the prison infirmary.
