RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Legislation aimed at curbing sexual assaults on Virginia's college campuses has cleared both chambers of the General Assembly.
There were several measures passed Tuesday by the House and Senate. They included a bill that requires college faculty and administrators who become aware of an act of sexual violence to report it to the person responsible for the school's compliance with the federal Equal Opportunity in Education Act. The act is commonly known as Title IX.
The information would have to be reported to a local law enforcement agency if it is found necessary to protect the health or safety of the victim or the campus community.
The Senate also approved a measure requiring colleges to include a notation on the transcript of any student who has been dismissed or suspended for a sex offense.
