DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa man has been sentenced to up to 25 years in prison for using donations to his charity to buy drugs and pay for sex.

The Telegraph Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1vhoQcf ) 52-year-old Christopher H. Simms, formerly of Durango, Iowa, was sentenced Monday for charges of ongoing criminal conduct.

According to court records, Simms solicited money for his charity, telling contributors their donations were going to help military personnel. Records show he instead used the money to buy drugs for personal use and pay for sexual favors.

In addition to his prison term, Simms has been ordered to pay more than $800 to 13 businesses and others who donated.

An attorney for Simms could not be reached.
