MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Two West Virginia University fraternities have been suspended for fire code violations.
WVU says the Office of Student Activities on Monday suspended Kappa Alpha and Pi Kappa Alpha after occupancy limits were exceeded during weekend events.
A Kappa Alpha member also was cited for obstructing a fire official and a member of each fraternity was cited for the overcrowding charge.
Dean of Students Corey Farris says the university is "committed to a culture change on this campus."
The university last week had lifted a moratorium on social and pledging activities that had been in place since November at fraternities and sororities after two drinking-related incidents, including the death of a freshman student.
