SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Church officials have yet to make a decision on whether to excommunicate a Mormon man who runs a website for church members questioning their faith. John Dehlin met with regional church leaders last night in North Logan. A church spokesman says the stake president has not made a decision and will notify Dehlin in the next few days.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The University of Utah's medical school is admitting the largest class in its history this year, part of an effort to tackle a shortage of family doctors in the state. Assistant Dean of Admissions Benjamin Chan says his team is choosing the 122 medical students partly for their dedication to practicing in rural areas where the shortage is worst.
CENTERVILLE, Utah (AP) — A World War II veteran from Utah who died five years ago has been honored. The Congressional Gold Medal was presented posthumously to Billy Kirkbride of Davis County during a ceremony last week in Washington, D.C. The Standard-Examiner reports Kirkbride's widow, Mary, and all five of their daughters attended the ceremony.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — In women's basketball, Nirra Fields and Jordin Canada scored 16 points apiece and UCLA rolled to a 58-45 victory over Utah yesterday. The Bruins have beaten Utah in eight straight games — all since the Utes joined the conference. Utah has lost 11 of its last 12 games and is winless on the road.
