BOSTON (AP) — Schools and courts in parts of southern New England are being closed and drivers are being warned to stay off the roads come Monday as the snow that's now falling intensifies. The "long duration" storm could drop up to 2 feet of snow in some areas. Winter storm warnings have been issued for much of New England through early Tuesday.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The worst of a wet and windy storm appears to be over for parts of Northern California. Forecasters say rain showers will be scattered for the rest of the day in the San Francisco Bay Area and the winds should also die down. Wind gusts of over 45 mph were reported earlier in the day, with steady rainfall that dropped an additional two inches of rain in coastal areas.
MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Los Angeles County authorities will likely ask Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner and other drivers to provide their cellphones to determine if any of them were texting before a multi-vehicle crash in Malibu that killed a woman. The investigators are trying to determine who or what triggered Saturday's crash on Pacific Coast Highway that also injured seven others.
PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) — The parents of a 26-year-old American who has been held hostage for more than a year by Islamic State extremists are clinging to hope that their daughter is alive. They have yet to receive information confirming otherwise. A family friend says that the parents of Kayla Jean Mueller, of Prescott, Arizona, are asking the nation and the world to pray for her return.
NEW YORK (AP) — NBC News anchor Brian Williams is backing out of scheduled appearance on David Letterman's "Late Show" on Thursday. The news comes a day after Williams said he was stepping away from NBC's "Nightly News" as the network looks into the anchor's admission that he had told a false story about being on helicopter hit by a grenade while reporting on the Iraq war.
