MUNICH (AP) — Ukraine's president is pushing for both a quick cease-fire in his country's troubled east and defensive weapons from the West. Petro Poroshenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin are to confer with the leaders of Germany and France by phone Sunday in an effort to calm the crisis. Vice President Joe Biden is backing the German-French diplomatic push.

PRESCOTT, Arizona (AP) — There's still no evidence to corroborate a claim by Islamic State extremists that an American aid worker they were holding was killed by a Jordanian airstrike in Syria. Jordan is dismissing the statement as "criminal propaganda," and the U.S. says it hasn't seen any evidence. Meanwhile, the parents of Kayla Mueller (MYOO'-lur) say they're hopeful she's still alive.

BAGHDAD (AP) — It's Sunday morning in Baghdad and residents in the Iraqi capital are hoping that it'll be a peaceful day. At least 40 people died in bombings on Saturday. One suicide blast on a crowded commercial street killed 22 people. According to the SITE Intelligence Group, the Islamic State group claimed to have carried out the attack, saying their bomber targeted Shiites

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say paparazzi were following Bruce Jenner when he became involved in a four-vehicle crash in Malibu that killed a woman, but there's no indication he was being chased. A Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman says the Olympic gold medalist was in one of four vehicles involved in the Saturday afternoon crash on Pacific Coast Highway but wasn't hurt.

MONROEVILLE, Pa. (AP) — Police say three people were wounded, two critically, when gunfire erupted at a Pittsburgh-area mall in a shooting that appears to have been targeted. The Monroeville Mall was evacuated after the shooting Saturday evening in Macy's and placed on lockdown while police search for the gunman. The police chief says the shooting doesn't appear to be random.
