ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — A judge has sentenced a southeastern Ohio high school teacher and coach to five years in prison for having sex with a student.
The prosecutor's office in Athens County said that 35-year-old Isaac Thomas was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to one count of sexual battery.
Thomas was a social studies teacher and boys soccer coach at Athens High School until his arrest last month.
Judge L. Alan Goldsberry sentenced Thomas to the maximum for the charge. Thomas will also be on probation for five years after he gets out of prison, and must surrender his teaching license.
Authorities did not release the gender or age of the student, but Ohio law makes it illegal for teachers to have sex with any student, even if they are over 18.
