SYRACUSE, Utah (AP) — Police have released footage taken from two officers' body cameras during a fatal police shooting in Syracuse last month.
The nighttime footage released Thursday shows few clear images, but includes the sound of gunfire shortly after officers arrived at the home of 49-year-old Thomas Hamby.
Prosecutors say the shooting was legally justified because Hamby fired first on Jan. 8 and officers shot back to defend themselves. Police say they were responding to a 911 call from Hamby's girlfriend reporting he was hallucinating and had a gun.
The Deseret News reports cameras also recorded dispatchers telling officers Hamby was deaf.
Syracuse police say a third officer wore a camera but its memory was full.
The Davis Country Sheriff's Office has not yet released additional information, including 911 calls, requested by media.
