SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah lawmaker has apologized for questioning whether sex with an unconscious spouse should be considered rape after a backlash from victims' advocates. Republican state Rep. Brian Greene says he supports a bill to make it clear that an unconscious person can't consent to sex but was worried about unintended consequences of the measure.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Eagle Mountain Republican Rep. David Lifferth wants to make it a state crime to deceive someone by displaying phony caller ID information. Lifferth says "spoofing" services make it easy for someone to confuse or scam the recipient of the call or text message. A spokesman for a spoofing service says it's used by legitimate businesses.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An attorney for Saratoga Springs says a young man killed by police while wielding a samurai sword was not shot because of his skin color, but because of his reckless actions. The family of 22-year-old Darrien Hunt filed a civil rights lawsuit against the officers and the city last month. Prosecutors ruled the shooting legally justified.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A Utah man charged with killing two Northern California sheriff's deputies stunned a courtroom by blurting out that he committed the crimes and is ready to be executed. At the end of a hearing today in Sacramento County Superior Court, an agitated Luis Bracamontes said, "I did kill those cops." While being led away in chains he said he should be executed.
