University of South Dakota to host regional spelling bee

VERMILLION, S.D. (AP) — The University of South Dakota is set to host the 2015 Southeast South Dakota Regional Spelling Bee.

The school in Vermillion will host more than two dozen students representing 10 schools Saturday.

The competition will begin with a written and vocabulary test followed by the oral bee.

Other regional competitions will be held across the state including in Rapid City, Mitchell, Sioux Falls and Mobridge. The top three contestants from each regional competition will advance to the state championship to be held in March at USD.

The top winner will represent South Dakota in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May in Washington D.C.

Saturday's event at USD will be streamed live online at www.usd.edu .
