SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — One of the key figures in a criminal case against two former Utah attorneys general has been found innocent of fraud and money laundering charges in what his defense lawyer says was a bigger conspiracy involving political corruption.
Marc Jensen had been accused of eight felonies tied to business dealings surrounding a failed, high-end resort that was planned in Beaver County.
His trial in district court in Salt Lake City lasted 11 days and a jury deliberated for 14 hours before returning the not guilty verdicts on all eight counts about 7 p.m. Friday.
Jensen's lawyer, Marcus Mumford, says the outcome of his case helps prove his claim that the charges were brought against Jensen as political payback from allies of former Utah Attorneys General Mark Shurtleff and John Swallow.
