WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Authorities say a man is dead and a woman is in critical condition after a pickup truck slammed into a compact car at a traffic signal in West Valley City.

West Valley City police say the pickup was southbound on 2700 West about 6 a.m. Friday when it apparently ran a red light and hit a car heading west on 4100 South.

The pickup driver died when his vehicle rolled on its top and slid into a traffic light pole, narrowly missing a house.

He wasn't immediately identified.

The woman driving the car was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Her name wasn't immediately made public.
