BOONE, N.C. (AP) — A 21-year-old Wake Forest man's death in a traffic accident is the fifth Appalachian State University student to die during the current school year.

The Boone Police Department said Friday that Jacob Dylan Whitaker died in a two-car crash on Thursday.

Police said this week that 19-year-old Mary Catherine Johnson of Raleigh was found dead in her dorm room. The school said no foul play is suspected but police are waiting for a medical examiner's report.

The body of a High Point student was found one week after she disappeared in September. Students from Harrisburg and Kernersville were found dead in November. Investigators found no evidence of foul play in those three cases.
